Pregnancy as per Ayurveda

Ayurveda says that pregnancy and giving birth can be a time of renewal and a positive high point in a woman's life. There is a part of ayurvedic science called Strirog-Prasuti Tantra (Gynecology and Obstetrics) that is all about the health of women and children, including care for pregnant women.

When male and female seeds come together, they make an embryo. Ayurvedic science compares how a person is born to how a plant seed germinates and grows into a seedling that grows. The quality of the seeds is very important. The health of the mother's uterus is just as important for a healthy baby's growth and development as the health of the soil where the seed grows.

Women who are pregnant can use the ideas of Ayurveda to take care of themselves during their pregnancy and to help them heal after their baby is born. Ayurvedic advice is mostly about what to eat, how to act, what to do, herbs, and therapies.

How to Have a Healthy Pregnancy According to Ayurveda?

During pregnancy, the development of the foetus is helped by a downward-moving energy called Apana vata. When the pregnant woman is in balance, there is enough Apana vata for everyone.

When the mother is stressed or tired, however, the upward-moving vata, called prana vata, has to take over and move downward to meet the baby's needs. Without the prana she needs to feel the joy of pregnancy, this can leave the mom exhausted, depleted, tired, and even depressed after giving birth.

Ayurvedic Dietary Tips for Pregnancy:

Ayurveda recommends that you eat a lot of fresh plants. Fresh green vegetables and foods that have just been cooked are very good for the health and cleanliness of both the mother and the baby. For a healthy metabolism, you should try to avoid eating food that is very spicy or oily.

Ayurveda's pregnancy diet says that a mother must eat an equal amount of sweet, savoury, and salty foods so that her body always has the right amount of energy. Ayurvedic oils could also be used in massages to help the mother feel better.

Pregnancy Care Tips in Ayurveda

During pregnancy, there are some tried-and-true Ayurveda strategies or tips that can help mom and baby stay healthy and happy and keep the Apana and prana vata in balance.  

1. Favour What You Want: The most important piece of advice is to eat what you naturally want. Follow a diet that is well-balanced, with meals that have enough protein, healthy starches, and vegetables.

2. Ayurveda Balance Vata: Balancing Vata, the energy of the nervous system, is the main goal during pregnancy. The best way to do this is to eat foods that are fresh, plant-based, whole or sprouted grains, and not made in a factory.

Foods made with healthy oils like olive, ghee, and coconut that are warm and just cooked are good. as much as possible, try not to eat leftovers. Avoid these foods:

  • Spicy, hot foods
  • Beans and lentils that aren't cooked enough can also cause gas.
  • Leafy greens that aren't cooked, because they can cause gas.
  • Flavours, preservatives, and chemicals that aren't natural.

3. Balance Between 3 Tastes: Sweet, sour, and salty are the three tastes that balance vata. During pregnancy, sweet tastes should be given the most attention because they are the healthiest for the baby.

This includes sprouted bread or bread cooked without oil, whole grains, rice, fruits, and healthy starches like sweet potatoes, quinoa, cooked beets, and carrots.

4. The Right Milk: Drink warm, vat-pasteurized (heated under 135 degrees F), non-homogenized milk with ghee from grass-fed cows. People say that giving a baby one cup of warm milk with a teaspoon of ghee twice a day will improve the baby's immune system and skin, or "Ojas."

5. Daily massages with a herbalized Ayurvedic massage oil: This feeds the skin's microbiome and calms the mom's skin-based sensory nervous system. The baby is calmer when the mom is calm.

6. Tips for Getting Rid of Morning Sickness: If you're pregnant and have trouble with morning sickness in the last few months of your pregnancy, try these things:

  • You can eat a small pinch of powdered cardamom seeds throughout the day.
  • Eat crackers or toast that are dry. It helps to keep a little bit of food in the stomach at all times.
  • Eat from the Spring Grocery List or Kapha-Reducing Diet for a little while.
  • Sip hot water mixed with 1/4 teaspoon of ginger powder or fennel seeds.
  • Put a pillow between the box spring and the mattress so you can sleep in a semi-reclined position.

7. Do simple exercises every day: One great way to do this is to walk every day for 30 minutes.

8. Ayurvedic Ways to Improve Your Health: You should get as much rest as you can during the eighth month. This is a delicate time when the mother and baby share a nutrient-rich fluid called "Ojas" that helps the mother's health, the baby's skin, and the baby's immunity.

  1. Keep your diet healthy, mild, and easy to digest.
  2. Keep a schedule for when you eat.
  3. Keep your mental health stable and do things that make you happy.

Don’t Try Ayurvedic Advice for a Healthy Pregnancy

  1. Don't eat foods that are too hot or have too much oil.
  2. Do not engage in sexual intercourse, intense workout regimen during pregnancy
  3. Try to stay away from bad feelings and a general sense of unhappiness.
  4. Do not put a heavy blanket over your stomach.
  5. Do not wear clothes that have tight knots over your stomach.
  6. Don't switch sides while sleeping without getting up.
  7. Sleep on your sides instead of your back.

Reduce your exposure to EMF (Electro-Magnetic-Field)

Wireless devices send out electromagnetic fields (EMF) that talk to our mitochondria and cause them to stop working properly, which can lead to a number of diseases. It also makes free radicals, makes us lose water, and makes our adrenal stress index go through the roof.

You should never put your vulnerable foetus in an electromagnetic field (EMF). Mainstream medicine already knows this, which is why they limit x-rays and other things, but they haven't yet figured out how dangerous things like cell phones, laptops, wifi, etc. are.

Ways to cut down on Electro-Magnetic-Field

  • Turn off your WiFi, smart TVs, and cell phones at night and when you're not using them.
  • Keep your phone on aeroplane mode whenever it's close to your body.
  • Stay away from places where there are a lot of EMFs, like being in a microwave. offices come to mind.
  • Buy Belly Armor, a comfortable material that will protect you when you're out and about.
  • Neutralise EMFs by going barefoot on the ground, walking on the beach, or swimming in natural bodies of water.

Ayurvedic says that being happy is the most important thing for a healthy pregnancy & the most important thing to remember when you're pregnant is to be happy. During this time, the partner's job is to keep the pregnant woman happy. Of course, the mom must also practice daily acts of happiness as well.
